Ekspresas - Hey-Hey-Gali-Gali (bad music)

Ekspresas is a Lithuanian band that was active in the 90's. They have 4 albums behind them, and Hey-Hey-Gali-Gali is the last track on their 1996 release called "Praeitis Grįš Į Ateitį" (The Past Will Return to the Future). Oh how right were they! Indeed this song resurfaced from the past and became infamous for its cringe-rich content.

Everything about this song is terrible. The instruments are out of tune, the chord progression is tasteless, the accordion synth sounds like cheap crap. And the singing is consistently flat with just the right amount of inaccuracy -- enough to confuse your ears and make them bleed. During the verses, the vocals fall behind with each phrase ending on the beginning of the next beat. To be honest, this seems to have been intentional, and it's what makes this song unique, and it definitely tickles my fancy for bizarre outsider music.

The breakdown of Hey-Hey-Gali-Gali is where the atrocity achieves its final form. The accordion synth lead shines in all its anti-glory, while the repetitive bongos bang on and on, feeding the tumor in the listener's brain. The lead singer joins in with the off-beat chant "LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA", and finishes with a pathetic falsetto that sounds like a teenager going through puberty, who accidentally hit the high note.

The worst thing about this song is how catchy it is - it's an earworm that comes with all the foulness attached, causing terrible migraines in whoever was exposed to the sound waves.

Rating: 10/10 water drops

Beware, this is a lucid nightmare in an audible shape. A potent torture device for your enemies. A reminder of everything that was wrong in the 90's.
